They’re as Canadian as poutine and the RCMP, but not as well known on this side of the border – The Tragically Hip suffered their own tragedy with the passing of frontman Gord Downie, and it was about time Hammond and I listen to their music and get to know the history and discography of the band. What did we think? Find out in this episode!
Man, The Hip are one of my all-time favorites. I got into them when my cable company here in Ohio added MuchMusic – the Canadian version MTV. For a long time I listened to more Canadian music than I did American music.
If you haven’t, you NEED to find The Hip’s final concert. Gord’s voice was rough, he seemed unsteady at times, and he messed up some of the words… but the emotion and power of that show -especially the version of Grace, too – still sends chills through my body. I might be tearing up now thinking about it.
And for Mr. Ibbott – how about a stream of a 4 hour radio show filled with Canadian bands covering Tragically Hip songs https://www.cbcmusic.ca/posts/17763/strombo-show-tragically-hip-30
Thanks for the show 🙂
